Fornvännen
The Digitization Project

The Digitization Project
During 2006-2007 the Library of the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities carried out a project with the aim to digitize, and make available on the Internet, the full text of 100 annual volumes of Fornvännen. The project was made possible through financial support by the Academy.
Kerstin Assarsson-Rizzi was Project Manager, and Gun Larsson, Information Specialist, was in charge of project work which was carried out by staff at the Library.
The printed volumes of Fornvännen have been scanned by the Swedish National Archives, Media Konverterings Centrum, MKC. MKC has delivered pictures in TIFF-format for long term archiving, and pdf-files, to the Library.
MKC has also interpreted the pictures and converted them to text, Optical Character Recognition, which is searchable as articles in pdf-format. This means that the contents of the articles can be searched through the search function in Acrobat Reader, or th esearch function of the website.
The Fornvännen Website
The pdf-files have been transferred to the National Heritage Board website, and the web pages have been created with a publication tool. Technicians at the National Heritage Board IT-Section have provided technical support. The search client used is SiteSeeker Remote, provided by Euroling AB.
