Here you can find information about the contents of the Digital Fornvännen and instructions on how to use the website.

Contents

The Digital Fornvännen contains about 3 000 pdf-files. One pdf-file usually contains one article, review or the like.

Material at the end of the issues of the printed Fornvännen, such as the Inventory (Tillväxten) of the Museum of National Antiquities and the Royal Coin Cabinet, the Annual report of the Director General, reports from the Annual Meetings of the Svenska Fornminnesföreningen, reports from the meetings of the Academy and the Executive Committee, and tables of contents, have been merged into one or two files.

Other types of material have been treated in the same way. This concerns reviews, lists of new publications and bibliographical reports from the library.

It should be noticed that very short notes, 'Smärre meddelanden' and 'Notiser', cannot be located, and links to this material will not be provided.

Searching

Searches can be made by using the Search Field on the starting page, by using the decades pages, or by using the annual volumes pages.

Please note that the OCR-interpretation is not perfect. Misinterpretations occur. Especially if you want to make a search for words containing special characters like å, ä, ö, æ, ü, ë, é etc, there will be more mistakes. We advise you to search in a different way (title, author, words) if you do not find what you would expect to be there.

If you are looking for a specific author or a specific article you can also make your search in the library catalogue VITALIS. References to the articles are registered in the catalogue, wiht links to the full text articles in pdf-format. Library staff at Vitterhetsakademiens bibliotek will be glad to help you to locate articles if you have difficulties to find what you are looking for.

Search Hits

The search tool provides you with a search list, marking your hits plus a summary of the total number of hits, and the number of hits per decade. The search hits are shown with a link to the full text (pdf-file) and with the search word in context. If you have difficulties to read the beginning of the text, the reason for this could be that the article is headed by a picture (which has been misinterpreted in the OCR).

Browsing If you want to browse the Fornvännen articles it is possible to do so in chronological order. Use the menu on the left to click to the right decade, annual volume and article. When you are browsing among the links to the individual annual volume, you will find that they are listed in page order, and contain information on author, title of the article and page number.
